Flip Flops Causing Foot Pain? Try These Simple Foot Stretches

Summertime means many of us kick off our shoes and switch to sandals or flip flops. But this shoe wear offers little support for our arches and can lead to foot pain. So if you find that your “dogs are barking”, try these 3 simple stretches to combat the pain.

The Plantar Stretch: To complete this stretch place the ball of your foot against a wall. Keeping the heel on the floor gently lean toward the wall. A stretch should be felt in the middle of the foot around the arch. Hold for 30 seconds and repeat two times.

The Great Toe Stretch: To complete this stretch start by sitting with your ankle across the opposite thigh. Using your hands grab the big toe and gently pull it away from you. A stretch should be felt along the bottom of the big toe towards the heel. Hold for 30 seconds and repeat twice.

The Calf Stretch: Start by placing the ball of your foot on a step with the heel off the edge of the step. Then stand on the step, letting the heel fall off. While keeping pressure on the ball of the foot let the foot relax. The stretch should be felt along the heel and calf area. Hood for 30 seconds and repeat twice.
